Independent consumer research supports private house sales

Published 11th Jul 2007

New research has shown that three in every four homeowners would sell their own home privately to secure significant savings on their sale fee.

The increasing popularity of television programmes and printed articles about how to maximise the potential of our homes, appears to have given many confidence to market their homes themselves. More than one in two homeowners questioned said they would feel able to put together a property description, deal with potential buyers and show them round their home.

The survey is the first in an annual survey run by epropertyshop, an online service that provides the tools for homeowners to market their homes cost effectively through the internet and a nationwide retail network.

Managing Director, Jas Lall said, ‘’The research results demonstrate that homeowners want control over how they sell their home and a choice of how it is marketed. The raft of television programmes and magazines on sale demonstrating how to get the most of property has captured consumers’ imagination and has given them confidence themselves, not least to maximise the return on their investment.

''Selling a home privately is something that anyone can do. We believe that this is the way forward as the consumer becomes more informed of the choices available, whether private sale is used as a complementary service to the more traditional route of using an estate agent, or as a standalone means of marketing a property. There has been recent focus on the increased cost of moving, so ways to keep costs to a minimum will be welcomed by many.''

epropertyshop carried out the survey as part of its research into home sales, ahead of its summer launch within the M25 and along the M6 corridor. The company provides the tools for homeowners to sell their property privately and offers a wide range of outlets including newsagents and partner estate agents to market to both a national and local audience, thus maximising exposure of the property. Prices start at £25 for the basic package rising to just £200 for the premier package.
